Alliance and Leicester PPI reclaim
If you have loan protection insurance or payment protection you are probably aware of the mis-selling scandal surrounding this type of cover. The issues were first revealed by The Financial Service Authority (FSA) in 2006 and since then the amount of payment protection insurance claims has risen dramatically.
The FSA’s investigation looked at the sale of payment protection cover across the industry and fined those lenders it felt were guilty of significant failures. One of these lenders was Alliance and Leicester. Alliance and Leicester’s fine was the largest seen during the payment protection investigation totalling £7 million. The fine was handed out in relation to the sale of approximately 210,000 policies between January 2005 and December 2007. The FSA highlight in its report the fact Alliance and Leicester had encouraged staff to recommend PPI to customers who may not have wanted or needed it. The press attention generated by the fine saw a significant increase in the number of unhappy customers making an Alliance and Leicester PPI reclaim and receiving compensation.
The amount of compensation you could receive will depend on a number of different facts including the age and size of your payment protection policy, but if mis-selling is proven you can expect to normally receive a full refund of premiums paid plus 8% interest.
The good news is there is no limit to the number of claims you can make and you can even make more than one claim against the same lender. You can even make a claim if your loan is already paid off. Remember, you may have been mis-sold PPI on a loan, mortgage, credit card, store card or hire purchase agreement so it is worth checking through all your financial agreements. It is worth doing this even if you do not think you purchased the cover as, on some occasions, salespeople added it without a customer’s knowledge.
