Get Back Bank Charges

Most of us work very hard for our money and when it is taken from us without our knowledge or consent, the first thing we do is try to find a way to take it back. This is one of the reasons why mis sold PPI has been such a huge concern in the UK. Lenders have been selling us an insurance product that cost altogether too much money for the few benefits it can provide. As well, sometimes we weren't even given the option to refuse purchasing this cover! If you feel that you have been mis sold payment protection insurance then you are within your rights to claim to get back bank charges.

Ways in Which PPI Has Been Mis Sold

If you are not certain whether or not your lender mis sold payment protection to you, here are a few guidelines you can go by in making a determination:

  • Did your lender place PPI on your loan without your knowledge or consent?
  • Did the lender interview you in regards to loan insurance?
  • Did the lender talk to you about the policy terms, conditions, exclusions and price?
  • Were you told you had to buy cover to qualify for the loan?
  • Were you under 18 or over 65 years of age when cover was sold?
  • Did you inform the lender of any pre-existing medical conditions?
  • Were you self employed, temporarily employed, unemployed or a full time student?

Those are just general things to consider when trying to figure out whether or not you can get back bank charges by filing mis sold PPI. If any of those situations describes your experience, then perhaps you were indeed mis sold payment protection and are eligible to get back bank charges.

How to Claim Mis Sold PPI

One thing that many people aren't aware of is that you need to file a mis sold PPI claim with the lender and not the insurance company. The insurer is, for all intents and purposes, an innocent party in all this as it was the lender who did the selling. This is not to say that insurance companies were not privy to what was happening, it is just saying that they had nothing to do with the actual sales. Once you have established that you were mis sold PPI and are eligible to get back bank charges, file a claim with the lender. If, for any reason, the lender denies your claim it is also your right to appeal with the Financial Ombudsman Service. Unfortunately, many consumers just don't have the time or patience to deal with the claims process so they hire the services of a professional claims management company.
