Many people may now be looking at ways to give up credit cards and loans so as to avoid the likes of payment protection insurance. However, saving may be tougher than it seems. As such, Martin Bamford, chartered financial planner at Informed Choice, has suggested some ways consumers can make the most out of their money. "Savers need to shop around as there is a big gap between the least and most competitive rates," he said. "They might also consider opting for a fixed rate as these tend to be more attractive than the interest rates on instant access accounts." Mr Bamford also claimed that cash savers should remain so but must make maximum use of annual cash ISA allowances. Recent research from Moneyfacts.co.uk found that despite their being no change in the Bank of England base rate of interest since March, just over ten per cent of accounts have seen rates reduced.
