PPI claimant misses out despite back injury

A consumer who took out payment protection insurance (PPI) and then developed a back problem lost out because of complications with their PPI policy.

The experiences the individual had when trying to claim on her PPI policy were reported in the Observer's money problems pages.

The consumer took out a PPI policy with Aviva, but one week before it came into effect visited a doctor with shoulder pain but was told that it was nothing to worry about.

Subsequently, the pain got worse and they were diagnosed with prolapsed discs and unable to work.

However, the PPI policy was declared invalid by Aviva because the initial visit to the doctor was not disclosed. But at this point, the ailment was only a crick in the neck, becoming worse later.

This week, the Observer also covered the story of a couple, Barry Goodison and Julie Moss, who were threatened with eviction from their home because of complications with their PPI policy.
