Bank charges: Review likely to let off bankers on pay
A major review into the way banks are run led by Sir David Walker has been accused of dodging the issue of bankers' salaries and bonuses.
It is thought that the review will not even make it necessary for top earners at banks to make public their wages.
Sir David Walker, who is leading the government inquiry, is himself a former banker, having been chairman of investment bank Morgan Stanley from 1995 to 2001 and again from 2004 to 2005.
He is expected to require banks to publish details of how many staff earn within various salary bands, but others including city minister Lord Myners and Liberal Democrat treasury spokesman Vince Cable have called for more stringent rules.
Earlier this week, a top banker at Royal Bank of Scotland, Chris Kyle, demanded that salaries should be kept secret.
