PPI Charges: Bankers celebrate review let-off
Bankers have congratulated a government review into the way banks are run for refusing to introduce a requirement that the names of employees earning over £1 million are disclosed.
The British Bankers' Association (BBA), which represents the interests of financial services employees, issued a statement saying that the decision was the right one.
Its chief executive Angela Knight commented: "Sir David Walker received widespread support.
"The banks have heard the call to publish this information, but they also see the risk in doing so, given that too many countries show no sign of following suit."
Sir David Walker, who led the government-commissioned review into bank governance, is himself a former banker, having previously been chairman of investment bank Morgan Stanley.
This week banks also scored a victory over the issue of bank charges, with the Supreme Court ruling that disputed fees could not be investigated further.
