PPI: Critics round on RBS

Critics of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) have signed a letter calling for action to rein in the bank, which is majority-owned by the government, the Guardian reports.

The group are critical of the bank's investments in fossil fuel companies and its backing for US firm Kraft's takeover bid of British chocolate manufacturer Cadbury's which could put jobs at risk.

A representative of the Church of Scotland is a signatory to the letter as well as writer Iain Banks and Body Shop founder Gordon Roddick.

The letter calls for the Treasury to take action and accuses it of adopting a hands-off approach with RBS.

Last week it came to light that RBS and HBOS received a loan worth more than £60 billion a year ago, which had been kept under wraps.
