Bank Claim: Lloyds axes more jobs

Lloyds Banking Group has announced that it is axing more than 500 posts at its Brighton customer service centre, which is due to close next year.

While it has said it will redeploy 162 staff, 373 people will lose their jobs entirely, it is thought.

In January, Lloyds TSB merged with HBOS and the newly-formed banking group has been engaged in cost-cutting measures since then. The trade union Unite says there have been more than 15,000 job losses at the firm this year.

David Nicholson, head of the banking group's retail division said: "As part of our integration process, we have reviewed our contact centre sites to ensure that we are operating in the best possible way. We recognise that this is difficult news for our affected colleagues."

Last week, following a Supreme Court decision in favour of banks over consumers, Lloyds announced that it had asked local courts to drop bank claims and cases relating to bank refunds.
