PPI can be reclaimed easily, says super saver Martin Lewis

Consumers who have been mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI) should ensure that they take the few minutes to apply to get their money back, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com Martin Lewis has told the News of the World.

The consumer champion said that many people might find themselves £2,000 richer after making a PPI claim.

Mr Lewis told the news provider that the biggest recorded repayment was for £42,000 and that he regularly receives letters from people who get sums such as £3,000 back after making a PPI claim.

He outlined the main forms of PPI mis-selling, including being told it is compulsory, being given a policy without being informed or if the individual was not asked about pre-existing medical conditions.

Last week, consumer journalist Neil Faulkner of Lovemoney.com warned customers of the high cost of payment protection insurance (PPI) policies, finding that some offer a "staggeringly bad" claims ratio.
