US bank JPMorgan Chase has announced that it intends to pay out millions of pounds in bonuses to its employees after posting profits of $11.7 billion (£7.19 billion).Pay, including bonuses and salaries, has increased at the firm by 18 per cent to 26.9 billion US dollars (£16.5 billion) even though it cut its workforce.Banks have benefited from low interest rates in the wake of the global financial crisis, with JPMorgan Chase's profits having jumped to more than double what it made last year.This week, US president Barack Obama announced a new tax on bank profits which will attempt to claw back some of the $250 billion which the government has spent in saving banks from collapsing.JPMorgan Chase is one of the oldest and largest financial services firms in the world, having been originally founded in 1799, and swallowed up rival Bear Stearns during the global financial crisis of 2008.
