PPI Charges: Poll shows Brits don't trust the banks
A quarter of all Britons do not trust their banks at all, a new poll has revealed.
Research from financial advice website money.co.uk found that only seven per cent of those asked truly trust their banks and believe they will treat them fairly.
The survey also showed there is a general consensus with the public that banks do not do enough to help customers avoid running up unauthorised overdrafts or preventing debit card purchases when funds are not available.
Meanwhile, a survey by the consumer watchdog Which? found that 68 per cent of consumers would be willing to switch their current accounts.
James Daley, money editor at Which?, said: "We're certainly not surprised that so few people trust their bank after everything they have been through over the last few years."
He blamed the excessive charges that have continuously "ripped off" consumers as one of the reasons people have lost their financial faith.
In addition, he said people have had to sit and watch the banks risk their private savings while they were on the brink of collapse. The taxpayer was then forced to bail them out.
