Bank Claim: Diamond payout for Barclays boss
He may have waived his bonus for 2009, following a public backlash against excessive banker payouts in the face of a global recession, but Barclays' top man may still be in-line for a bumper payout.
The Guardian claims that Bob Diamond could receive up to £22 million in annual salary for his efforts in bringing the national bank through the banking crisis.
"While [Mr] Diamond and John Varley, the chief executive, have rejected any cash bonuses for 2009 in an attempt to defuse the furore surrounding executive pay, they are expected to benefit from other long-term pay schemes that paid out last year," reports the news provider.
It reveals that the bank, which is the second biggest in the UK, could publish its annual report later today, in which details of its chief executives and boardroom members pay will be disclosed.
Barclays recently posted profits in excess of £11.6 billion for 2009, a 96 per cent increase on its performance the previous year.
