Bank Reclaim: Stars give bank tax seal of approval
Adding their names to the plethora of celebrities who are backing calls for an international bank levy are British stars Sienna Miller and David Threlfall.
Both have openly shown their support for the Robin Hood Tax campaign, initiated by director Bill Curtis and actor Bill Nighy, which proposes that a bank tax of 5p for every £1,000 could raise up to £250 billion to repair the global damage of the credit crunch.
Film star Miller told the Press Association: "A tiny 0.05 per cent tax on bankers could raise billions for public services and tackle poverty and climate change at home and abroad - small change for the banks can mean big changes for the world."
Meanwhile, actor Threlfall, who plays the drunken and failing father Frank Gallagher in Channel 4's Shameless, told the Sun why he is backing the campaign.
He said that all across Britain, children are living in poverty and while he is "not surprised" that Gordon Brown has failed to reach his commitment of halving child poverty, something can now be done.
"There's a chance, however, that politicians can succeed... by globally taxing bankers who caused the financial crisis in order to raise money for those who need it most," he commented.
