Bank Loan: Credit card holders urged to be vigilant this Christmas

Consumers have been urged to take extra caution with their credit cards over the festive period.

Sarah Blaney, card fraud expert at financial services firm CCP, expressed her belief that many Christmas shoppers looking to pick up last-minute presents may be leaving themselves open to fraudsters.

She said: "The thing for consumers to remember at this time of year, particularly in the build up to Christmas, is just to remain vigilant with their card details.

"In the hustle and bustle you're not always aware of the things that are going on around you, so keep all your belongings safe."

Ms Blaney added that prepaid cards are a good way to limit any losses as they contain a finite sum of money, unlike a credit card with a large spending limit.

Research from Sainsbury's Finance found that the average person plans to spend £170.25 in the week leading up to Christmas.
