Credit card reclaim: UK consumers have 'big concerns'

Consumers in the UK are currently faced with a host of "big concerns", an expert has said.

Joanna Parsley, associate director of Credit Action, a national money education charity, claims that people are cutting back on luxury items in an attempt to pay down debt.

She said: "Currently rising fuel bills, increased food prices and job security are big concerns for UK consumers.

"Because of these fears it is not surprising that many are cutting back on luxury items and looking to pay down debts with any spare cash they have. We know that consumers are saving less at the moment."

Ms Parsley added that the demand for debt advice is strong with many consumers feeling the strain when it comes to paying higher bills and other expenses, such as transport costs.

Her comments follow research by moneysupermarket.com, which revealed over eight million Brits missed paying regular monthly bills last year.
