Lenders are set to become increasingly picky over who they lend money to, which interest those currently seeking out loan refunds. Helen Adams, managing director at FirstRungNow.com, a company that helps first-time buyers find their way onto the property ladder, claims that lenders are set to offer higher loan-to-value mortgages to first-time buyers this year. She said: "I think lenders will be more picky about who they lend to. They want good borrowers that they think are secure in their jobs and are stable, but I think that they will lend a bit more as they build up their reserves from all the profit they are making from the other mortgages." Ms Adams added that lenders will be coming up with new deals that they will sell direct rather than through a broker. The Building Societies Association recently reported that gross mortgage lending by £1.4 billion in January 2011.
