Always check credit card charges, expert advises

People should always make sure they check the credit card charges that will come with a card before taking it out.

That is according to Justin Modray of candidmoney.com, an independent, free and impartial website, dedicated to helping people better understand and look after their money.

He said: "It's all too easy to chase credit without bothering to work out how much it could end up costing you, especially if you only make minimum monthly credit card payments or miss them altogether.

"If you're going to borrow with a credit card then always use an online calculator to see how much it could end up costing you."

He revealed that if you borrow £1,000 on a credit card charging 18 per cent APR and only make the minimum monthly repayments, this could take over 12 years to clear.

Consumer campaign group Which? recently submitted a complaint to the Office of Fair Trading asking it to investigate excessive credit and debit card surcharges.
