Credit card claim: Third of Brits plan to get new credit card

More people may end up having to make a credit card claim after research has revealed that almost a third (28 per cent) of Brits are planning on taking out a new card in the next 12 months.

Sainsbury's Finance has estimated that 8.65 million people are planning to apply for a new credit card over the next year.

Findings show that, of these, 28 per cent claim that when choosing a new card, the loyalty reward is the most important deciding factor.

Despite this, research shows that just one in three providers offers cards that have loyalty schemes.

Stuart McKeggie, head of Sainsbury's Credit Cards, said: "People are looking to get more from their card nowadays, whether that is through rewards on their shopping or through extra benefits such as travel insurance.

"Good use of loyalty schemes and card features can help people get a lot more value from their card."
