PPI refunds: Half of parents do not have life insurance cover

People who obtain PPI refunds may want to shell out on life insurance cover, as research has revealed that 47 per cent of parents do not have a cover in place.

That is according to Nationwide, which also found that 76 per cent of parents do not have Critical Illness Cover.

Commenting on these findings was Kelly Ostler-Coyle, spokeswoman for the Association of British Insurers, which represents the collective interests of the UK’s insurance industry.

Ms Ostler-Coyle said: "There is a protection gap in the UK between what people think they are covered for, in terms of if they die, and the reality of what the insurances are that they actually take out.

"Obviously it's worth updating and thinking every couple of years about your financial needs."

She added that when people are squeezed financially, insurance is not always their first priority, but if and when things do go wrong, the reassurance of having insurance offers peace of mind.
