Bank charges: Employees 'embarrassed' to claim expenses

Many employees may end up experiencing bank charges because they are too embarrassed to claim back expenses.

Lawrence Gold, presenter of the BBC's Bank of Mum & Dad, said that while many staff members just cannot be bothered to do their expenses, others felt embarrassed about claiming back money.

He said: "The survey carried out by Concur found that one in five workers are spending as much as £270 a year on expenses that they are not claiming back.

"We asked why this was and three main reasons came back: one, they couldn't be bothered with the hassle; two, they were too embarrassed; and thirdly, they didn't want to because they felt guilty."

Mr Gold added that we are living in "tough times" and that employees should claim back the money that is rightfully theirs.

The research by Concur revealed that almost one person in 20 spends around £600 per year of their own money on legitimate work costs.
