Loan refunds: People have an 'appetite to save'

People seeking out loan refunds may be doing so because they want to save some money.

Jasmine Birtles, founder of moneymagpie.com, a website that contains information on all aspects of making and saving money, claims that people have an "appetite to save" at the moment.

She said: "Those who can are actually saving more because it has hit home for them that they need to, but others are simply unable to and in fact, they're using their savings to keep going.

"The best savers, or at least the ones keenest on saving, are the young … because it has hit them the hardest."

Ms Birtles added that young people have realised that they are not going to be looked after by the state and that money is hard to come by, so they want to save.

Her comments follow research by Standard Life, which revealed that 17 per cent of Brits do no financial planning at all.
