Credit card charges: Brits spend almost £1,000 attending weddings

People may end up experiencing credit card charges if they attend a lot of weddings as the cost of doing so has been revealed.

Research by Halifax has revealed that the average person will spend £900 every year attending the wedding of a friend or family member.

On average people will attend two weddings per year.

Flavia Palacios, head of Halifax Savings products, said: "The research clearly shows that wedding guests are spending money in order to be part of their friend or family member's special day, but it can be costly when you add everything up."

She added that it is important to have savings in place so that people can attend weddings.

The research also showed that 55 per cent of people have declined a wedding invite and that six per cent of these had done so because they were worried about how much it would cost.
