Loan refunds: 80% of Brits saving

People who are currently seeking out loan refunds may be interested to hear that 80 per cent of Brits are saving.

Research by Standard Life has revealed that although the majority of the population is putting money away, many may not be doing it in the best way possible.

It showed that 49 per cent use a bank or savings account to save, which can have a negative impact on money stowed away because of factors such as inflation.

John Lawson, head of pension policy at the firm, explained that while many people saving is encouraging, choosing to put money in a savings account means that their purchasing power may be impacted negatively.

Speaking about why people are not opting for specific savings products, he said: " Consumers realise a savings account might not get them the best return but they seem to go with what they know.

"Attitude to risk may also be a factor, bank accounts are familiar and regarded as a safe place for your money."
