Credit card charges: Women should ask for budgeting help, expert says

Women who are looking to cut down their credit card charges should not be afraid to ask for help in cutting down costs.

Such is the opinion of Piya Khanna, founder, executive coach and change consultant at Change to Succeed, an organisation specialising in women's professional and personal development.

Ms Khanna explained it is important that women get independent financial advice and manage their money for the present and future.

She also said that it is important women do not rely on their partners or the state.

"As a start, a clear and brutal assessment of their financial position is essential.

"Shopping around for goods and services is also another way to reduce the impact by getting discounts and availing of offers. Asking for help is also important - many women feel the need to "go it alone" and don't ask for help," she said.

Ms Khanna added that although tough choices may have to be made in the short-term, having more money in the bank is better than having instant gratification of buying a luxury item.
