A number of people may end up experiencing credit card charges because of new EU laws that were designed to protect users. That is according to Andrew Hagger, spokesman for moneynet.co.uk, a price comparison website for financial products. He made these comments on the BBC Wake Up to Money Show podcast, which is presented by Dominic Laurie. Mr Haager said: "It is the Consumer Credit Directive which came into effect on the first of February. "The idea of that was to make things more transparent, make it easier for the consumer to compare credit deals but it does actually work against the consumer compared to what was in place previously." He added that this now means that credit card companies are able to charge more and extend the number of nought per cent deals. According to Mr Haager, 15 per cent of people have been shifted onto higher deals because of these changes.
