A large number of consumers experiencing credit card charges may be missing out on the rewards that this form of payment offers.Research by American Express reveals that consumers are missing out on £3.6 billion in rewards because they do not claim things such as cash back, retail vouchers or frequent flyer points. As a result, the global service company is urging people across the UK to get more from their spending by using points earned. On average, consumers could benefit from around £116 per year by doing this.Julie Hay, vice president at American Express, said: "It is time UK consumers ended their unrequited love affair with 'passive plastic'."Why continue to make purchases on debit and credit cards that give nothing back for your spending? At a time when every penny counts, we're urging consumers to make the cards in their wallets work harder for them."She added that it is important to pick the right card in order to get the most from rewards on offer.Jennifer HainesJennifer's speciality knowledge is credit card changes and balance transfers.
