People who are looking to avoid paying credit card charges by paying the best price possible for goods may be surprised to hear that many passengers are paying over the odds by buying tickets online. A new report by Passenger Focus found that many customers are paying too much for their tickets online, concluding that rail firms should do more to make the booking system simpler. It also recommends that companies should make it easier for passengers to check the time restrictions and 'permitted routes' in regards to tickets. Passenger Focus chief executive Anthony Smith said: "Companies that use websites to sell train tickets must do more to make sure passengers do not overpay. "It is too easy to pay over the odds simply through lack of familiarity with the fares system and its bewildering jargon." He added that it is "vital" that the systems is made right as an increasing number of tickets are sold online.Amir HussainAmir specialises in personal loans, consumer debt and debt management.
