Loan charges: Directgov website 'can help parents save on childcare'

Parents concerned about facing loan charges because of the cost of childcare should do some "essential reading" on the Directgov website.

Mark Bower, managing director of price comparison website moneymaxim.co.uk, revealed some of the ways parents can reduce costs when it comes to childcare.

He said: "Essential reading for parents is the DirectGov website, it covers tax credits for childcare, the government funded childcare voucher scheme and even links to local authority websites where you can find details of pre and after school clubs, holiday clubs and more."

Mr Bower also recommended Mumsnet, as practical advice from other parents can be found.

He added that it is a good idea for parents to talk to their employer, as it is in their best interests that their staff are able to fully concentrate on their job.

"Many employers offer financial or practical assistance for parents when it comes to childcare," the expert explained.
