A number of people living in the rental sector could find loan refunds come in handy at the moment, as three million tenants currently fear homelessness. Research by the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) has found that this many renters are in a financially vulnerable state and are struggling to pay their rent. Delroy Corinaldi, CCCS external affairs director, said: "The next few years are going to be tough for many people as the economy has shown few signs of improving and those living in rented accommodation will be at the sharp end of this. "I fear that many will end up homeless." According to the national debt charity, renters with a private landlord owed an average of £18,733 in unsecured debts. Those renting from a housing association or local authority owed, on average, £14,239 and £12,612 respectively. The research was commissioned for the CCCS by the Financial Inclusion Centre.
