Almost half (45 per cent) of single women in the UK are reluctant to share financial matters such as credit card charges with their partner, it has been revealed. A study by Friends Life, a provider of pensions, investments and insurance, has found that women are more likely to accept a marriage proposal that have a joint bank account with their partner. Kim Clarke, head of HR at Friends Life, said: "Women have fought hard for their financial independence and they are determined not to give it up, regardless of whether they are single or in a committed relationship. It is encouraging to see so many young working women taking control of their finances now." However, she added that women in their 20s need to start saving now in order to secure their long-term future. Research revealed that 89 per cent of working women under the age of 30 think of themselves as being in complete control of their finances. The national average for adults is 75 per cent.
