Loan charges: Fifth of Brits 'will still be paying for holiday next year'

People who are experiencing loan charges may be among those who are still paying for their summer holiday next year.

According to research by gocompare.com, a fifth of Brits will still be paying for this year's holiday next year.

Findings also show that only two-thirds return from their vacation feeling refreshed and relaxed. Four per cent even said they wished that they had never gone away.

Jeremy Cryer, head of travel at the price comparison website, said: "While there is little we can do about the weather spoiling our holiday, we can take steps to be better organised financially and better protected should the worst happen when we are abroad.

"Budgeting for a holiday should include some contingency planning for extra meals out, trips or gifts."

He added that consumers who have overspent should look to get a better deal on their credit card to make sure "damage is limited".
