Credit card charges: Cost of living 'has gone up'

People who are currently having trouble with credit card charges will no doubt know that the cost of living has gone up.

Phil Perry, a director at Ark Financial Planning, an independent financial advisory firm, said it "goes without saying" that when it comes to repaying debt, things are getting harder at the moment.

He said: "The cost of living … has gone up at the moment. Gas, electric [and] all of the usual utility bills are rising.

"Taking into account inflation being at 4.4 per cent, I think it would be very unusual for anybody to have a rise in salary of 4.4 per cent."

Mr Perry said that he does not believe salaries are keeping in line with the current rates of inflation.

On a more personal note, he added that the only thing that has not risen this year is his council tax, which has remained unchanged from last year.
