PPI Refunds: People 'fear their bills'

PPI refunds may well help the increasing amount of the UK population living in fear of their bills.

New research by MoneySupermarket.com has revealed a quarter of UK adults get stressed before they open their bills and 20 per cent delay bill-opening because they are too afraid.

The study demonstrated that people are in a difficult financial situation; 31 per cent said they panicked because their outgoings were higher than their income each month.

"Consumers are battling with bill increases coupled with a fall in disposable income; it is understandable that a bill phobia has developed amongst almost 13 million UK adults," said Clare Francis, personal finance expert at the site.

She added that with the increased cost of energy bills it is hardly surprising people are scared of their bills.

Further research from MoneySupermarket.com found 71 per cent of bill payers do not have the required disposable income to cope with soaring utility prices. ADNFCR-2776-ID-800743913-ADNFCR
