PPI Claims: People are 'finding more innovative ways to save'

PPI refunds could be useful as people look for innovative ways to find a bit of extra money.

Research from Saga has shown that huge numbers of people aged 50 and over will shun expensive restaurants or even cheaper pubs in favour of DIY meals that will allow them to save some cash.

Almost two-thirds of the people surveyed said that they were choosing home-cooked snacks to save money.

"At a time when the over-50s are feeling the squeeze, it's no surprise that people are seeking cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality," said Ros Altmann, Saga's director general.

She said people are becoming more inventive to save money and the idea of a packed lunched and flask of tea is a good way of doing that.

A recent survey from Family Investments demonstrated how the rising cost of living is affecting people's budgets, finding nearly 50 per cent of families in the UK will need to save an average of £386.76 less over the next year as they spend more to meet basic costs.
