PPI Refunds: City house prices 'more expensive'

PPI refunds could help offset the escalating costs of living in the city.

New research from Halifax shows the average house price in the UK's cities has increased by 65 per cent over the last decade – at a rate of £131 per month – compared to a 56 per cent rise for the country as a whole.

The survey showed the discrepancy between urban and rural house prices in the same county is now the highest it has been since the bank started recording its figures in 1983.

Urban property prices have increased at a faster rate than income has over the last ten years and the research stated the typical city home is now 5.2 times the average gross annual earnings.

People living in the countryside and commuting to the cities are not exempt from financial pressures, as UK transport secretary Philip Hammond recently told MPs that rail prices are "eye-wateringly expensive".ADNFCR-2776-ID-800748255-ADNFCR
