PPI Claims: 7 million 'in fuel poverty'

PPI claims could help people facing fuel poverty in the UK.

A report by uSwitch.com found the average household energy bill is now £1,293 a year, just £207 from the point where the majority of consumers will begin rationing their fuel usage.

Energy prices have increased by £224 this year and now 28 per cent of bill payers are struggling to meet their gas and electricity costs, the research revealed.

Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, believes the UK is now on the verge of an affordability crisis.

She said there are "almost seven million households living in fuel poverty, a third of people saying that energy is already unaffordable in the UK and over a quarter already struggling to afford their bills".

Executive director at Which? Richard Lloyd said that the majority of people see utility bills as their biggest financial worry and the government and suppliers need to do something to help people manage this winter.ADNFCR-2776-ID-800753865-ADNFCR
