Nearly one in five people do not share financial information about credit cards with their partners.New research from MoneySupermarket.com found 17 per cent of individuals with a partner deliberately concealed card bills and statements from them. The most common reason people gave was because they were fearful of their spouse finding out how much money they had spent.Men were more likely to keep the costs of an expensive night out on their cards secret, while women hid expensive clothes purchases on theirs. All the secrecy may lead to people forgetting about payments, said Kevin Mountford, head of banking at the comparison site.Hiding statements may make the situation "harder to monitor", but consumers should not "forget this is one more thing to think about paying off at the end of the month", he added.Figures published by Credit Action for October 2011 revealed credit cards are now used for purchases totalling £1.28 billion.Jennifer HainesJennifer's speciality knowledge is credit card changes and balance transfers.
