PPI claim: Offspring 'will always need money help'

Payment protection insurance (PPI) refunds and credit card claims could provide the extra financial help many people with children need.

New research from Legal & General revealed that 27 per cent of parents in the UK believe that due to the tough economic circumstances many have experienced since the banking crisis they will never be able to stop supporting their child.

According to the study, only 21 per cent now believe that their offspring will be financially independent when they become 18.

Simon Ellis, the managing director of the firm's investments department, said that high inflation means the costs of raising a child are becoming higher, but these results were still shocking.

"This trend significantly increases the strain on parental finances and will no doubt change the way future parents save for their children," he added.

PPI claims could be very timely as recent research from Aviva found 46 per cent of over-55s will be face budgetary pressures this Christmas.
