Payment protection insurance (PPI) claims may allow people to avoid getting themselves into financial difficulties this Christmas.The Finance and Leasing Association has urged people who are struggling to find the extra money they require to buy gifts to avoid worsening their financial situation by taking out expensive credit cards or loans.It is important consumers remember that bills will come in January and their finances should be able to cope with the added expenditure, it stated.The group advised that individuals who need to use a credit card should look for the schemes which offer zero per cent rates."With many families keeping a careful eye on their Christmas spending, up-front planning is essential," said Fiona Hoyle, FLA head of consumer finance.According to MoneySupermarket.com, some people who use a typical credit card to buy their Christmas gifts this year could still be paying for them in nearly 13 years' time.Jennifer HainesJennifer's speciality knowledge is credit card changes and balance transfers.
