PPI Claim: Kids gifts 'a priority'

Payment protection insurance (PPI) claims and loan refunds could help families who are making cutbacks to ensure their children get the gifts they want this Christmas.

A new survey from LV= has found that 29 per cent of parents in the UK will make sacrifices to their budget to make more money available to purchase presents for their offspring, while 31 per cent admit to feeling more financial pressure this year.

The research revealed that each child in the UK will have more than £178 spent on them by their parents and some mothers and fathers have already told their children they will not get all the presents they have asked for.

Mark Jones, the firm's head of protection, said "Many families will be feeling the financial strain of keeping their kids happy this Christmas."

He added that families will find it hard to cope financially if they experience even a small fall in income.

Recent research from MoneySupermarket.com found that if families paid with a typical credit card for their total Christmas spend, they could be charged £70.20 in interest during the next 12 months.
