PPI Claims: Tough year 'affects festive cheer'

Payment protection insurance (PPI) claims or loan refunds could provide the added financial security that many individuals in the UK lack this Christmas.

A new survey from MoneySupermarket.com has found that 12 per cent of people cannot afford to lend £50 to a friend, while five per cent said they would loan the money, but it would affect their own festive budget.

"It comes as no surprise that a number of people are not in the position to be able to lend even £50 to a friend this festive season," said Kevin Mountford, head of banking at the site.

He explained that many households have had to make austere financial cutbacks since the onset of the banking crisis and this year had been particularly tough for them.

PPI claims could be particularly useful for pensioners or those on a fixed income.

Recent research from Aviva found nearly half of the over-55 age group find it difficult to pay for Christmas.
