PPI claims could provide extra Christmas finances

Payment protection insurance (PPI) claims could help to give families the extra security they need to not be worried about the effect Christmas spending will have on their finances in January.

Andrew Hagger, Moneynet.co.uk's spokesperson, stated that this year had been an extremely hard one for households to keep on top of their money issues, as many everyday items such as energy, car fuel and food had increased in price.

"People are trying to be more careful because they don't want to be left with huge credit card bills come January when they won't have the money to repay them," he said.

Speaking about recent research from Halifax , which found that the average British consumer plans to spend around £319 on gifts this year, Mr Hagger said people should make their own decisions.

He explained that the exact amount would depend on their circumstances and how large a family people had.
