PPI Claims: Families have 'extra Christmas parties'

Payment protection insurance (PPI) claims and credit card refunds could help people cover the costs of multiple festive celebrations this year.

New research from American Express found that the traditional Christmas family party is changing, with more households opting to celebrate with separate parties with different members of the family and social circles.

This year, 30 per cent of Brits will move between celebrations hosted by family, in-laws and friends on December 25th, while 49 per cent will accommodate their loved ones by attending more than one party during the festive season.

The report also revealed that 27 per cent of hosts expect their guests to make a contribution to the fun by bringing some food or drink.

"Asking for financial contributions from a guest can be a tricky subject to raise," said the firm's head of Platinum Cashback Card Julie Hay.

According to MoneySupermarket.com, ten million people will be in debt as a result of their Christmas spending.
