Many Britons who have received a payout from a payment protection insurance (PPI) claim regret not saving the money or using it to pay off their debts. A new survey conducted by first direct has indicated that more than half of respondents were angry with themselves for not putting enough money aside. One in three said they regretted not settling more of their arrears throughout the year, while 13 per cent wished they had paid more into their pension. Head of savings at first direct Bruno Genovese believes it is vital that people get their finances in order sooner rather than later. "Ensuring that you plan your long-term spending is extremely important as good organisation can help you pay off debts more quickly," he remarked. A recent study by Gocompare.com suggested that 49 per cent of UK citizens want to ease their money troubles as a matter of urgency in January, with 40 per cent saying they wanted to reduce their expenditure.
