Solicitor urges Britons to make PPI claims

A Shropshire-based solicitor has urged people in the area to check if they are eligible to make a payment protection insurance (PPI) claim.

Mike Walker of Darwin Matthews Solicitors told Shropshire Live that some credit card and loan customers may not have been aware that their bank was charging them for PPI.

He said that due to the high interest rates on the policies, many bank customers could be entitled to claim back thousands of pounds.

"Some people may have been paying for the insurance for quite a while and then asked the Bank what it was and then cancelled it," he told the news provider.

Following a recent High Court ruling, UK banks have been forced to set aside £7 billion, which will be used to settle future PPI claim cases.

More than £1 billion was paid out to PPI claimants in the first ten months of 2011 alone, according to the Financial Services Authority.
