More Britons could be forced to see if they are eligible to file a claim against mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI), as a growing number of people are concerned about the rising cost of living. According to a new survey conducted by MoneySupermarket.com, consumers are ten-times more concerned about spiralling utility bills than they are about meeting mortgage repayments. The research indicated that one in four UK households would be unable to survive for more than a week if their income suddenly dried up, which may explain why many people have been keen to secure income protection insurance in the past. Just an extra £1,000 would relieve the financial stress of many people, the study also concluded. "It is worrying that so many people would struggle should their financial situation change with a quarter of households saying they only had enough spare cash to last a week," commented the website's consumer finance expert Clare Francis. Director of Chapters Financial Limited Keith Churchouse recently urged people to place between three and six months worth of wages into a savings account to act as a buffer should they lose their jobs.
