PPI claims news: High petrol prices force drivers to change

More drivers in the UK could be in need of compensation from a payment protection insurance (PPI) claim just to stay on the road.

A new study conducted by Hastings Direct has highlighted the extent of the financial hardships that have been caused by sky high petrol prices.

The research showed that 78 per cent of motorists have been forced to change the way they drive and how often they get behind the wheel, as rocketing costs at the pumps have started to take their toll.

One in five of the survey respondents admitted that they would get rid of their vehicle altogether if petrol prices reach £2 a litre.

Managing director at the insurer Tobias van der Meer said that motorists "cannot and will not" continue to pay extortionate prices to run their cars.

Nationwide's latest Consumer Confidence Index showed that Britons hold a bleak outlook for their own finances in 2012, as the cost of living continues to grow at a faster rate than wage increases.
