A number of HSBC customers were unable to incur bank charges, pay for products or withdraw cash from automated teller machines (ATMs) yesterday (May 20th).The bank claims this incident was due to a computer issue and has apologised to its customers on its Twitter feed.It said: "Sorry again for the problems this evening. An IT hardware failure affected some ATM and card transactions."Later, the bank tweeted that "any interruption to our services is regrettable" and again apologised for any inconvenience experienced by its clients.Although some individuals may still have problems as the bank's systems are being reset, it is thought the error was resolved at around 19:00 BST.While the problem is believed to have been experienced across the country, it is unknown how many of the firm's customers were impacted by the issue. Some of its account holders said they were embarrassed or upset that they could not pay for products with their HSBC cards.Amir Hussain Amir specialises in personal loans, consumer debt and debt management.
