Nottinghamshire County Council Trading Standards warns of PPI claims scam

Nottinghamshire County Council Trading Standards have warned members of the public to be on the look-out for PPI claims scams, following a number of reports the organisation has received from people in the area who were targeted by these criminals.

The offence involves fraudsters cold-calling residents and telling them they are due a PPI refund, before asking for an 'administration fee' through Ukash vouchers or cash transfers from money unions.

They request this under the pretence that the person on the other end of the line will send them their payment protection insurance refund once the initial fee goes through.

When the victim passes the payment details to the caller, criminals steal the cash and provide no PPI compensation services.

Anyone who has been affected by this crime is asked to speak to Action Fraud by going to www.actionfraud.org.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.

People are also asked to tell their friends and family about the scam.
