Loan Protection: Banks to disclose earners over £1m

Banks will be forced to make public how many of their employees earn more than £1 million but will not be required to unveil the identities of the individuals in question, it was announced today.

The announcement comes as part of the government's Walker review into the corporate governance of banks, and the proposal will form part of the Financial Services Bill.

From January 1st, a new rule will come into force meaning that the bonus deals of senior staff are limited to one year, while new guidelines recommend that bonuses should be deferred over the next three years and paid at least half in shares.

While thousands of account-holders pursue bank refunds and PPI claims after unfair treatment, bankers' incomes continue to increase. According to figures released last month, bonuses are set to rise continually over the next two years.
